About Me

Josephine Murray-Smith

I have Post Graduate Diplomas in both Counselling and in Hypnotherapy, and I am currently working towards an MSC in Psychotherapy. I am a member of the ITA and of the NGH and I abide by their codes of ethics.

I worked both in commerce and in the voluntary sector in Edinburgh before setting up a private practice about eight years ago. I am genuinely interested in helping my clients resolve issues that may be holding them back from living a fulfilling life. I see clients with a wide range of issues and of all sexual preferences.

I recognise that the journey through life is not always an easy one. At times life's challenges can be overwhelming and relationships can be difficult to maintain. A safe and confidential environment is provided to discuss and explore issues and problems.

Counselling and Psychotherapy are both about examining your life and improving it by changing unhelpful and harmful patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour. It can help with examining your ways of relating to others with a view to improving your relationships, thereby ensuring that your life is more fulfilling.

Hypnotherapy can help you to access the parts of your unconscious mind where a lot of your past experiences are stored away. This can be a way to rapidly change old habits and patterns. It is of particular help when you want to stop smoking.

I work with clients with varying issues ranging from anxiety, depression, sexual problems and relationship problems. I also see couples who are going through difficult times together. I generally work long term but also shorter term using cognitive behavioural techniques when necessary.

It is my firm belief that there is always hope - no matter how dark and bleak life seems at times. I believe that people can change and grow, and I can offer support through that period of change

I am non judgemental and everything we discuss is confidential.
